Lesson 4:  How to think

(scroll down for videos)

Discussion prompts/journal exercises:

  • Write about a time when you assumed a negative event was about you and you started feeling bad about yourself. Can you look back and see how your feelings were assumptions?
  • What are some alternative thoughts you could have focused on that would have made you feel good about yourself, like Adam did in the end of the story? (If you have a hard time thinking of an answer, pretend that you’re trying to comfort someone else that is having that problem, and then say that to yourself)
  • The best way to change the habit of self blaming is to make yourself more aware of it. Keep a tally of how many times in the next couple of days you jump to blaming yourself after you perceive something to be negative.
